Humans throughout the years have always been right or wrong in making choices, the decadence in OAU SU isn't a thing of 2012-2017, it is a product of reoccurring patterns of reactionaries at the helm of affairs. It is not our generation that started the habit of "we want to graduate quickly", it is just that the rascality of our generation is so much that we cannot marry it with any other reactionary that ever held power. When students ever had radical leaders who wouldn't sell them out for money to buy buses or money to construct staircases, students grow very comfortable and at last they make the wrong choices under the pretext of ensuring that an Ultra Radical person doesn't get into power, hence they end up selling the Union to the management who have always found nothing more appealing other than frustrating the Unions
The problem of 1999 was created by the preceding administration of 1998, which created a free entry for Cultist and at last we know how the Blood of Afrika and four others were used to wash away just the simple mistake of a "leader by accident", it was this same comfortability that was basked in 2004 when students voted a person by the nickname MM, At last students knew the wrong they had done, MM promised students that he wouldn't have any strike action in his tenure but the social reality was against him!!! If you have chance, double check this fact, it was the same 2004/2005 that we can't find any Matric No for because the Dipo Fashina(Jingo) led administration of ASUU had a strike action which was about 9months that same session!!! Hence the issue of shutting down of the school wasn't the problem of any student of the University but a serious problem orchestrated by the Management of which Students are still victims.
Students have also voted Credible people although some have shot the chances given to them, the likes of Ansaru, FJ and others had a very credible start but they couldn't finish!!! I hope we don't end up having another president who becomes a P.A(Personal Assistant) to one S.A(Special Adviser) whose salary isn't more than #180,000 per month in the future, for those with inner eyes you could already discern I am talking about T.Y.
What amazes me the most is that students would say we cannot vote in this person because he is Radical, please for crying out loud, Students' Unions are meant to be radical and nothing else, it's either you have a radical union or a "fogo" Union, it is either you have a principled Union or a "headbutting" Union, it is either you have a serious Union or a union who wants to share backlog with the aim of enriching their pockets, it is either you have a socialist union which makes demands or a Union who doesn't have any Job other than construction of stair case which in Baba Ibeji(a school security operative's voice) word isn't in any way part of their business
It isn't too late to correct the wrongs of this administration, in 2004, MM and his whole Crew were impeached along side the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker, and the clerk became the Acting President and believe me the Union thrived very well under that leadership!!! With the recent happenings in the Students' Union, it isn't out of place to have history repeat itself, this would however set OAU SU back on the part of greatness!!! All the atrocities of the Present administration have been impeachable, starting from the thuggery disruption of the Angola Hall Bonfire by the president and his thugs to the unconstitutional suspension of the speaker at the congress, to the doctoring of the Congressional Resolutions by the Secretary General under the direct instruction of the President, to the Purchase of a Scandalous Bus thereby defrauding the Union to the tune of 3million naira, to the constitution of a fraudulent health task force, to the disruption of parliamentary sittings, to the last and most frivolous action of attempt to dissect money meant for the generality of Great Ice Students, while others may see it as Extreme, I want to bring it to your notice that Baba Kuku who was the SU president was impeached for misappropriation to the tune of #5. So if someone has misappropriated or attempted to misappropriate a sum of money, it is not unprincipled to use their names in redeeming the lost image of OAU SU.
Let it be stated at the point that every generation out of relative obscurity discovers it's mission either to fulfil it or to betray it, the management doesn't have any issue in Union matters, and that's why they would invite even the reactionary Paul Alaje to come and teach Union leaders on how to succeed in their administration, hence the suspension of the VP and DOS with the aim of redeeming the names of the University is frowned at seriously, and for the thugs being used to disrupt parliamentary sittings and Congresses, I have a short story to tell you, in 1989 when Adeola Soetan was the president, there was a person that attempted to disrupt the Congress and legend even has it that he slapped the then President Baba Show, fact has it that he was mobbed and killed on that same spot.
