Deregulation, Restructuring By Gbanga Von
BUHARI; ATIKU
DEREGULATION; RESTRUCTURING
WHERE DOES THE HOPE LIE?
Deregulation: As represented by Buhari, It simply means government withdrawing from public service leaving the economy in the regulating hands of private investors rather than of government nationalizing the economy. It is the idea behind privatized Power company so that Nigerians can pay more for 'darkness' while the investors get richer! It is the idea behind privatization of education so that students pay outrageous fees for poor education in return while the school owners get richer! It is the idea behind subsidy removal on pms to render hardships on the people for the increased profits of the ruling class.
Restructuring: As general elections approach, Atiku has been seen around eating with the poor and drinking satchet water in the streets. Is that to make us feel he is poor? But
Jonathan told us he had no shoes too while he was schooling but when he became president, did he defend the interests of the shoeless, homeless and poor childdren?
Atiku, the major proponent of 'restructuring' was once the vice president of the federation, where are all the funds restructured into his safe?
Now some youths are believing that the idea behind restructuring is to give power to the people. Do they mean political power? When the the economic power is in the hands of Dangote, Otedola and other members of the ruling class. So Atiku is only coming with propaganda to restructure the economy( as it has always been) in the hands of the same economic tycoons, himself inclusive who will get richer under the program. There is never equality between the exploiters and the exploitated. So it is mere distraction to deceive people for any fundamental difference between the ideology of deregulation and restructuring other than the fact that all of these concepts are designed to further rob the masses and make the rich get richer. The ruling class has no way forward out of this system. Any ruling ideology is the ideology of the ruling class. No wonder that if there's a news that Nigerian economy has boosted by 1.3% for instance, though ridiculous, it simply tells us that the profits of the Dangotes, Otedolas, Adenugas and Atikus have boosted by that percentage. The "boost" never reflect on salary nor in the standard of living of an average worker.
_The oppressors are always interested in changing the consciousness of the oppressed and not in changing the situation which oppresses them! The hope does not lie in this system, Nigerians have only being reduced to a blind puppy sniffing at random directions without a headway out. Workers, students, masses, unite for the true change!_
We Shall Overcome!
