UNITED STRUGGLE OF THE OPPRESSED!

OUR CARDINAL POSITIONS:

We join students to reject the slim fitted examination time table targeted at rendering mass failure on students. A properly spaced examination time table is demanded for academic quality.
Comrade Gbenga Von
The billing of students at any point in time for health care services at the university health centres is the height of criminality ON THE part OF THE UNIVERSITY administration and must BE reversed with immediate effect.

we condemn the university management on the barbaric and criminal rotation of lower and water supply when tests are ongoing and examination is fast approaching. the university must produce power generating sets to augment the embarrassing power supply and convert these primitive wells to boreholes.

we join students to reject the sponsored move to review the students’ union constitution by the leadership of the union, who have been found want on of aberrational inconclusive sittings and manipulated Congresses. the leadership should move, form once, in tackling the welfare crises facing students.

Pacesetters Movement, again, uses this medium to reiterate its positions on the state of the university, in term of the general crises, the docility and treachery of the leadership of our dear students’ union.  This organization is critically aware or in cognizance of the material conditions that determine success or failure in examinations. Of course, these are always certainly vested consistently in the welfare available to students, in the area of their living and learning conditions. To expect excellent academic performances from students without adequate academic facilities is either hypocrisy or a figment of imagination. The latter is primary and fundamental for a university that is not blind to qualitative education.

To start with, the Faborode led administration in 2011, imposed an unbearable examination time table on students of the university. Students had challenging courses such as CHM and MTH in a day, only for them to resume the next day with ZOO and PHY the same day. These similar conditions were faced by respective students in their respective faculties which continued throughout the very short period of examinations. The slim fitted time table rendered students, even the most brilliant ones, with woeful results. It was the experience of the 2011 academic tsunami that forced Students out enmasse to reject vehemently when such was reintroduced by the Omole led administration in 2012. We are not here to connect dots whether this administration, led by Prof. Ogunmodede, who happened to be in the Omole governing council has come to continue in Omole’s foot prints. However, for us in the movement, in a university where learning has not only been hectic, but as a matter of fact, life threatening due to the horrendous conditions of living, learning and teaching in the university, we consider the inconsiderate slim fitted two weeks examination time table as a deliberate callous act on the part of the university administration. Despite the poor welfare conditions experience by students which is more than enough in contributing to poor academic performance of students, the university senate has decided to openly declare their commitment to continually disgrace the standard of the university by foisting mass failure at the detriments of students. We join students to demand the reversal of this time table to a humane, well-spaced, or at least to a duration that will encourage better performance.

We condemn in strong terms, the barbaric behavior of power and water supply being orchestrated by the university administration in this test period and no improvement as examinations approach. We are not oblivious of the university’s character of rationing costs by all means, resulting to looting and mismanagement of funds and of course the risks of students’ sustenance, comfort and academics. We hereby reiterate our position that the university administration must purchase power generating sets to augment the insincere excuse of technical faults, Ajebandele, PHCN and governmental low allocation for incessant power outage. We demand that the primitive wells be converted to bore holes for students as alternative to the always crazy and faulty dam supply. The university must provide alternatives source of power and water supply from the heavily generated internal revenue. Also, the attention of members of Pacesetters Movement has been drawn to the alleged robbing of students of their entitlement to the university health services. The proposed billing of students at the health center under the guise of failure to register is criminal. The non-registration of students at the health center does not dispute their credence as students of the university neither does it dispute their rights to health services. It must be noted that the university for long, has been robbing students through the payment of TSHIP( Tertiary Health Insurance Program) by students with their tuition fee. This payment has already been made by the federal government through the NHIS( National health Insurance Scheme) available to universities. Enforcement of students to pay for TSHIP by the university management in their fees is a fraud on one hand, and  attempt to further impose bills on students at the health center is financial corruption which must be resisted by students. We hereby join students to reject this attack, and charge the union to wake up to this task pragmatically. Students must be granted free, quality and unconditional access to health services.

Also, without any unending or unnecessary rhetoric, we call the attention of students to the sectarian amendment of the union constitution proposed in the agenda of the SRC parliament. The leadership of the house led by the speaker, Tbamz, the clerk Tosdam and the Deputy speaker Onafem are on the race to bring down the union in what we see as the calculated sponsorship of the university administration to dwindle the progressive consciousness, radical tendencies and intellectual perspectives of the students in which the constitution has been designed by great minds to represent. This constitution has, over the decades guided radicals to combat local, national and international austere policies and as well safe guard the union in difficult times. We condemn this attempt to toy with the constitution but rather the parliament should concentrate sincerely and critically in reviewing the welfare condition of students which have been much more terrible or even got worsen and have not improved since the current leadership of the union came on board.

Conclusively, we demand the union to aggressively take up crises of the dilapidated welfare conditions most importantly at this continuous assessment (TEST) period to further prepare students to write their examinations in flying colours. The union must reject the congested examination time table as it is an obvious attack to mass fail students. It must focus on rejecting the austere policies from the university administration and government through pragmatic means.

For us, the union must effect the standing congressional resolutions and paste the receipts of acknowledgement of all our demands submitted expectedly to appropriate quarters publicly.

ALUTA CONTINUA… VICTORIA ASCERTA!
