THE PREVALENCE OF CULTISM IN OUR SOCIETY AND ITS EFFECTS ON YOUTHS
Cultism has its deep root
from the time immemorial. That is why there is hardly any society today where
we do not have one cult group or the other.
Although, the aims and objectives of each cult group differs; in most
cases they go any length in achieving their aims.
It prevalence in Nigeria
societies could be trace back to the time when most us today are not yet born.
That is why we have instances, where some people are born into it. The idea of
belonging to cult group gang according to some people is for protection and in
most cases to safeguard their interest. However, these interests a times are
selfish and diabolical, as record has shown to us in many previous instances.
However, when the like of Prof. Wole Soyinka and others inaugurated the pirate
confraternity in the then university of Ife in 1953, it was meant to safeguard
the interest of the generality of the students against the tyrannical
tendencies of the authorities of our higher institutions then.
