CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT IN NIGERIA SOCIETIES
Child Abuse consists of any
act of commission or omission that endangers or impairs a child physical or
emotional health and development. A canker worm that has eaten deep into
fabrics of our great Nigeria societies. Its causes are known to vary from
unintended pregnancies, unemployment, and financial difficulties.
In other words, children in school
circumstances are known to stuff untold harm, neglect and abused. Furthermore,
children could be seen roaming the streets, hawking and selling petty goods.
Are these leaders of tomorrow? If these children who roam the streets naked and
are abused on daily basis are the leaders of tomorrow, then the future of our
families, communities and Nigeria as a nation is at stake.
However, child abuse as a
social problem has only recently gained the recognition and attention of the
Nigeria public. This was as a result of an organization known as the Africa
Network for the Prevention and protection Against Child abuse and Neglect (AN
PPC AN) which was set up in 1984 by some African countries including Nigeria.
