NYSC: Don't associate with questionable character, NYSC DG advise

Corps members have been cautioned against associating with persons of questionable character during and after the service year.

The Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, gave the advice while addressing the 2017 Batch 'A' (Stream II) Corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camps in Akwa Ibom and Rivers State.

He told the Corps members to shun criminal tendencies, especially engagement in cyber crimes and other fraudulent activities.

"You can achieve anything in life if God destines it. So, whatever lawful endeavour you are engaged in, do it diligently. Work hard and leave the rest to God.

"As graduates, you have to plan well, and know that there is no shortcut to success," Kazaure said.

The Director-General told the Corps members to imbibe the spirit of patriotism, pointing out that the country had confidence in them as an emerging generation of leaders.

Kazaure enjoined them to pay attention to the NYSC entrepreneurship training and seek self-employment instead of roaming the streets in search of non-existent white collar jobs.

He commended the camp officials for providing conducive atmosphere for the Corps members in camp.

Earlier, the NYSC Akwa Ibom Coordinator, Mr. Cyril Akhanemhe, said in a bid to enhance the welfare of Corps members and other members of the camp community, the NYSC Secretariat had carried out repairs on the hostels and overhauled the major power generator in the camp.

He appealed to the state government to hasten the completion of the on-going capital projects in the camp.

In Rivers State, the Coordinator, Mr. Omotayo Adewoye, told the DG that the state government had approved resumption of payment of state allowance to Corps members, relocation of the NYSC Secretariat and the provision of a 35-seater bus to the Scheme.
