Rerun election: NOA boss urges Rivers politicians to shun win-at-all-cost syndrome

Rerun election – As electorate in Rivers go to various polling unit to elect their representatives in the rerun legislative elections in the state today, politicians have been urged to shun ‘’the win-at-all-cost syndrome’’. Mr Oliver Wolugbom, the Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), in the state gave the advice while speaking with journalists in PortHarcourt on Saturday. He said that in doing that, politicians must abide by the rules of the game to ensure peaceful, fair and credible election. According to him, the problem with elections in the country is the tendency of some persons refusing to be under the law. “Nobody should leave his or her polling unit to other units or wards for any reason, no matter how highly placed such a person may be. “The process begins to have problems when highly placed persons leave their units and wards to other areas, their mission cannot be anything good,’’ he said. The NOA boss further called on party agents to be good ambassadors of their parties and avoid being used to fomenttrouble. “All political actors must learn to accept the results of the elections and only seek recourse in the courts if they feel dissatisfied. “We must purge ourselves of the syndrome of winning at all cost. ‘’Sometimes, the costs are very expensive, we cannot afford to continue that way.’’ Voters were seen filing out to various polling units as early as 7.30a.m in some units in Emohua Local Government. Security officers were also seen in some strategic locations in Choba, Ngbuitanwo and Rumuji communities.
