THE ROLES OF A YOUTH IN NATION BUILDING

What is Nation Building? This simply refers to the process of constructing or structuring a national identity using the power of the state, and this process aims at the unification of the people within the state so that it remains politically stable and viable in the long run.

Who are the youths? They are the people whose age is above the teenage limit but not more than 30years. People that fall within this age bracket have a great role to play in building a society, but alas, the reverse has been the case in country Nigeria. The youth’s responsibility towards national development cannot be over emphasized given the fact that they are the backbone of any society that wishes to prosper in terms of economy and culture.

Youths population is the life wire of any society and the force behind a developed nation culturally, the youths are the inheritors of the society heritage and custom. Therefore, if the skill of agile population is positively harnessed a nation can be said to be on the path of greatness and development. However, my heart bleeds seeing the negative image of our youths have created in the area of organized crime and other vices, which have contributed to the bad press Nigeria has been given among comity of Nations.

 

Youths as nation builders, this means that youths are the power house of any nation and how tomorrow will be like can easily been seen in the kind of youths a nation has. Now let’s focus on brain drain of the thousands of graduates leaving the country for greener pasture, the issues of migration has a negative impact on our nation, nations are build out of human intellect, migration `of our many graduates has a serious implications on us. This means that a nation cannot be built without the recognition and the collective efforts of such graduates.

However, the role of the youths is to make the leaders aware about their duties and responsibilities. They must avoid of been misused by politicians for their petty interest, but here in Nigeria the youths are frustrated due to not having safe future and the problem of unemployment, so they have been diverting themselves into bad and illegal activities like drug addiction, premarital sex, robbery, and other social unethical vices.

Youths can make the nations identity high by winning international awards in sports but they should be provided appropriate environment to develop themselves by the nation. So the government should have a good strategy to utilize those qualities of youths so that nation should be as a emerging and prosperous country in the world.

Youths; make yourself grow in wisdom, awareness, and knowledge, both in self and the world, your confidence, abilities, and satisfaction will grow more and more every single day and you will live good happy and useful life.
